Storied Places

Storied Places uses the arts to animate spaces and acknowledge community history and heritage. It builds neighborhood connectivity, providing engagement opportunities for young people to take a more active role as stakeholders, ultimately viewing themselves as ambassadors in the future of their community.

The project goals include:

1) Collaborate with residents to develop a storied interpretation of their neighborhood

2) Develop authentic neighborhood tours that blend resident stories and the performing/visual arts to animate historic, underutilized and significant places

 3) Directly engage 50 youths, who will serve as performing/visual artists, tour guides, researchers and oral historians

4) Create a heritage room or center that houses community artifacts and material culture

5) Provide opportunities for social bridging and bonding through intergenerational relationships

6) Contribute to the local creative economy by employing practicing artists, providing stipends/salaries to youth and selling products related to the project

7) Host community conversations that can contribute to revitalization, community building and civic engagement
